Introducing the Colour-to-Read Series – Fun, Hands-On Learning for Early Readers

As a mum of five and someone passionate about helping little learners develop confidence with reading and writing, I created the Colour-to-Read Series — a progressive set of 8 activity books designed to make early literacy fun, hands-on, and stress-free.

Whether your child is just starting to recognise letters, exploring phonics, or ready to practise reading more complex words, these books are designed to grow with them. Each book combines colouring, tracing, and writing activities to build fine motor skills, phonics knowledge, sight word recognition, and early reading confidence — all while keeping learning playful and enjoyable.

Check out the books in the series:

1. My Alphabet Colouring Book

The perfect first step for early learners! This book focuses on single-sound phonics with familiar pictures for children to colour. By keeping the illustrations simple and avoiding beginning blends, it gives children a strong foundation in recognising the first letter sounds.

2. My Long Vowel Colouring Book

Building on the basics, this book introduces long vowel sounds and early reading words. Kids colour, trace, and interact with words that reinforce phonics patterns and begin forming reading confidence.

3. My Writing Fun Book

Designed to strengthen handwriting skills and early writing confidence, this book combines letter tracing, writing practice, and themed animal colouring pages. Children can practise letters, write words, and reinforce their alphabet knowledge in a playful, low-pressure way.

4. My Big Buggy Word Activity Book

A unique approach to sight word practice! This book features “Buggy Words”, carefully selected high-frequency words based on early readers. With colouring pages, word finds, colour-by-word activities, and bonus printable flash cards, children reinforce sight word recognition in a fun, engaging way.

5. My Colour to Read Book 1

Focusing on early consonant blends like sm, sn, fl, cl, fr, dr, and tw, this book uses colouring to teach phonics patterns while strengthening fine motor skills. It’s a playful first step into blending sounds to build reading confidence.

6. My Colour to Read Book 2

Next in the series, this book introduces vowel and consonant digraphs such as ai, ee, oy, ay, ou, ch, th, and ng. Through colouring, children practise recognising common letter combinations and reading simple words, gradually building fluency.

7. My Colour to Read Book 3

Here we focus on ending blends and digraphs like _rt, _lp, _ing, and others. Colouring activities help children notice word endings, strengthen decoding skills, and develop confidence in reading more complex words.

8. My Colour to Read Book 4

The final step in the series! This book covers advanced vowel blends and consonant patterns, including sounds like aw, ir, ph, kn, gn, mm, pp, zz, _tch, and _dge. By colouring and interacting with these words, children consolidate their phonics knowledge and finish the Colour-to-Read pathway ready for confident independent reading.
